It’s all in the Details….
I love living in the PNW and my favorite area is the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsula’s. Now don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot to love about the mainland and Seattle — I’ll be sharing my special off the beaten track discoveries in due time. But the love I have for little quaint towns where you feel like you’re visiting someplace special, calls to me. That’s why Poulsbo, WA is right at the top of my list of favorites!
That’s right – the little Viking town of Poulsbo in the middle of the Kitsap Peninsula, sits at the top for me. And here’s why:
When you visit Poulsbo, you feel like you’ve travelled back in time.
Being empty nester’s gives us time and space to do a little “Date Night” adventuring. We’re both foodies, we love to get out and grab a few bites here and there along with a great glass of wine. Poulsbo is special in that it has several places to walk, shop, sit and people watch – but most of all Front Street has a distinct energy that draws me in. Could be my Norwegian roots – or just that I enjoy popping in and out of all the little shops in hopes of finding a treasure. Plus, it’s just good to get out and breathe a little, take in that fresh sea-air and get some exercise! Poulsbo’s Scandanavian atmosphere fills me with hygge and that’s something I just can’t seem to get enough of these days!
It’s all in the Details — Details Wine Bar that is!
Several months ago, as we were frolicking on Front Street, we popped into one of my favorite modern home decor shops, Details Home and Garden. Have you ever walked into a store and thought “I could live here!?”…. this shop is so unique, some days I just wish I could either hire the owner to come and decorate my home or just let me live in the shop full time — it’s really a place of comfort and beauty. Not to mention the shop owner has a Goldendoodle pup on premises — I’m all in! It’s an eclectic combination of rustic farmhouse meets beautifully designed home with all the “details” you can imagine – we’ll save those details for another post as this isn’t about retail shop itself, but it’s adjoined wine bar of the same name. I have always thought, if someone were to hand me a glass of wine while I was shopping, what fun I could have! Still, there’s nothing too bad about grabbing a delicious glass of wine AFTER shopping. I say after because by the time we get downtown it’s usually later after I’ve spent a bunch of money planning all the pretty details of my own home and the wine bar stays open after the store closes — which is awesome!
It’s a Washington Wine Experience like no other. Our first trip was chilly and cold outside, so we opted to sit inside and warm up. Last weekend we were able to enjoy the afternoon fall sunshine and sit outside while sipping our wine flights. Their menu consists of a selection of local Washington wines with White or Red or White and Red flight selections. Starting at just $10 – each of the flights consists of 3, 5, or 7 three-ounce pours. This fall they also featured a Rose & Bubbly Flight, however, we each opted to select our own three selections.
We were ready for a break at that point, and we couldn’t help noticing how great it was to sit and take in the sights, enjoy a breather from all the walking and shopping as well as the local car enthusiasts that cruise the Front Street strip in their special rigs. I’m not sure, but I’ve wondered several times if people sign up to drive the strip at certain times of day — we usually see everything from classic cars to newer sports cars rambling down Front Street around the 5:00pm pre-dinner hour and they do tend to get the pedestrians and bystanders excited as they go by. Be sure to wave, clap and whistle when you see them — they really love the attention, and it gives them such an emotional boost, which really is a win for all, right?
Details Wine Bar also has a few very appropriate, prepackaged charcuterie snacks to nibble that pair well with those sips and swirls – check those out as you make your wine selections.
If you’ve been to Details Wine Bar, drop me a line and let me know what you thought of the place. If not, add it to your plans, you’ll thank me later. Sitting inside is just as sweet as sitting outside with that whole nautical theme they have going on in there! It’s a place after my own heart, after all!
